Chin implant

An average facial appearance is that natural balance of the face’s features; the nose, the chin, and the check-bones. But, when one of these features is out of proportion on the look of a regular face, the emanating unusual look can easily upset anyone. It’s instinctive for anyone to look ordinary, and when there’s a problem in the face, a special medical procedure must be done.

What’s chin implant?

A chin implant refers to a particular surgical procedure that aims at making the chin look normal. It involves adding artificial prosthesis to the chin structure for a great look. The perfect structure is often achieved in along with other procedures including facial liposuction and facelift.

Chin implant is a modern medical procedure that suits people of all ages. It works well when correcting a weak chin that may have originated from facial trauma, congenital deficiency, age-related bone resorption and many other problems. It also helps correct saggy skin at your skin’s chin area. Chin implant is perfect perhaps because when someone is not satisfied with the procedure, reshaping is pretty easy.

Technique of operation

1. Silicone

If you are looking for a little implant, then this type of chin implant perfectly suits you. It is an effective procedure described by incisions inside the patient’s mouth. The incisions can either be in the natural crease line right underneath the chin or inside the mouth. When it’s under the chin, the scar will be imperceptible, unlike the invisible scarring when the procedure is performed inside the mouth.

In our modern clinic, you can expect some silicone from “Implant Tech.” Most of them appear as follows:

Mittelman Pre-Jowl chin

This procedure aims at offering augmentation in the pre-jowl sulcus and requires no extra interior chin augmentation.

Mittelman Pre-Jowl

Unlike the other method, this one offers anterior chin augmentation with a slight increase in the lateral fullness that’s accurately set to supplement the pre-jowl sulcus. In fact, the posterior implant surface is there for a pronounced symphyseal ridge.

Terino Extended Anatomical Chin

In this type of implant, the lateral arms are made to appear thinner and broader than the extended anatomical chin to create some subtly palpable edges. Consequently, the profile is made a bit squared so that the patient can attain a stronger jawline.

Terino Square Chin-Style I

This type of chin implant is popular mainly because it offers chin augmentation, but with a squared profile.

Terino Square Chin-Style II

It is basically an enhanced version of chin augmentation, but with a strongly emphasized squared profile.

Flowers Mandibular Glove

It’s another operation that focuses on making posterior implant surfaces equal the mandible’s anterior surface’s anatomical variations. The procedure slightly tilts the chin mold steeply upward for the anterior chin augmentation. It blends in literally and as expected, leaving no significant lateral augmentation.

Extended Anatomical Chin

In this procedure, full lateral arms are set into mandibles, although Glasgold Wafer can offer an extra anterior augmentation.

Anatomical Chin

It is essentially the same as Extended Anatomical Chin.

Curvilinear Silicone Chin

It entails central chin augmentation, but with no lateral component.

2. Filler Injection

When it comes to chin implantation through filler injections, what’s mostly used are the natural substances because they help bind water to cells. The best ones are Juvederm Voluma and Radiesse because they can last for 9-12 months. Juvederm volume is mostly used as it’s made up of hyaluronic acid, although topical anesthesia must be used to lessen the pain that comes with the injection

3. Chin shaving

This is a specialized surgical procedure that focuses on the chin bone. Basically, the bone is moved forward to achieve the desired look. It’s an alternative to the two chin implantation methods.

  • Avoid all anti-inflammatory drugs including Aspirins
  • Stop smoking a week or two before the procedure
  • Do not use supplementary compound with high vitamin E because they can result in bleeding
  • Prepare a sick leaving permission a week before the surgery
  • On the very day, come with your friend for convenience
The Procedure

The entire process often takes a maximum of three hours, and the patient must be anesthetized first. The surgeon will then make an incision inside the patient’s mouth, shift the facial bones and fix the condition with a plate. Sometimes, a small tube is temporarily attached behind the ear so that any blood is drained and stitched off.

With a local anesthetic, a prominent doctor will take less than an hour to finish the process. It involves gently scratching the tissue for space where the implant can be inserted. Once everything is done, sutures are used to close the incision.

Post Operation
  • Two days after the surgery, decrease swelling and bruising by cold compressing the area
  • Always keep your head upright with little movements
  • After 3-5 days, stitch it and don’t forget to visit the doctor for follow-ups after four weeks.
  • Stop drinking and smoking until three weeks after the operation are over
  • Don’t smile broadly
  • Avoid spicy foods
  • When drinking water, use a straw to minimize the face’s overall movements
  • Your tongue should stay far away from the incision
  • Drink plenty of subtly warm water
