See services lips surgery in Bangkok, Thailand

Lip augmentation is a cosmetic surgery that plumps up the lips thus decreasing the chances of wrinkles forming around the mouth.  It assists in preventing a downturn of the mouth because of the loss of great skin texture which occurs as a result of natural aging and worsened in some instances by long-term smoking.

A patient may want lip improvement because of many reasons. The lips may appear very thick or thin, wrinkled or just aged.

An old lip is often thinner, longer vertically, has wrinkles which protrude outwards, droop with a bad skin texture, and the lower teeth show first when the mouth is opened.  The effects are worse in smokers.

A mouth that is aged affects one’s expression and may make one look angry, sad, grumpy or worried.

 Operation techniques

  1. Fat injection

This method involves liposuction of fat tissues from the thigh or abdomen. The advantage of this procedure is that the fat tissues are readily available and easy to harvest.

It is also easy to insert the extracted liposuction and local anesthesia without incurring any health risks or adverse reactions. Although about 60% of the fat will be reabsorbed, usually what remains after six weeks will be permanent.

Patients undergoing this technique can often benefit from repeated procedures. Other options for lip augmentation include using non-animal derived hyaluronic acid, such as Perlane or Restylane, which is injected.

For the fat injection operation, patients will have to prepare for a 7 day stay in Thailand.

  1. Skin graft

The skin graft technique involves grafting of skin from the abdomen, inner thigh or the trimmed skin after a facelift operation.  The technique provides longevity since the patient gets to use their own skin tissue to get a lasting and attractive look. The dermal skin graft provides the most permanent lip filler. In some cases, idiosyncratic absorption may occur quickly while in other situations the lips will maintain their fullness for several years with up to 80% to 100% retention.

  1. V-Y Plasty

The V-Y plasty is a different operation where the doctor tightens the muscles of the lips. It involves an internal tissue re-arrangement from the inside of the lips. This technique, therefore, provides a permanent, lasting enhancement that gives fuller lips.

  • It takes a short time.
  • The procedure uses local materials; therefore, no foreign materials are used. This reduces the risks of complications.

  • This operation can achieve positive results that benefit some patients but caution has to be taken as it doesn’t work the same way on all individuals.
  • The technique of this operation is a delicate one and requires a highly experienced surgeon.
  1. Filler

This procedure provides treatment for aged people whose lips need fat or hyaluronic fillers to appear desirable and attractive. Here, Botox injections and other techniques may be used in separation or as a combination.

For techniques 1,2 and 3

  • The patient has to inform the surgeon of any allergies or other serious medical conditions before the surgery.
  • The patient should let the surgeon know if they are on any prescriptions before surgery.
  • Patients should also avoid aspirin-containing medicines 2 weeks before the surgery.
  • The patient should plan for a 7-10 day stay in Thailand.
  • Meals and anti-inflammatory drugs should not be taken 3-5 days before the operation as they cause anticoagulation.
  • Eat food before the operation
The Procedure
  1. For techniques 1, 2

The local anesthesia is injected then an incision on the umbilicus, thigh or liposuction is made. The fat tissue is then injected into the lips, and the procedure is completed with stitches to the incisions.

  1. For techniques 3

For this technique, the doctor will design the shape and features of the inner lips. Then a local anesthesia is administered. The doctor then opens the incision that enables lip readjustment and stitches off.

Post Operation
  • The patient should head lift while sleeping
  • The patient should also clean the suture lines with peroxide and apply some ointment.
  • Avoid unnecessary smiling and manipulation.
  • Do not eat hot or cold foods
  • The patient can use lipstick within one week after surgery.
  • A little swelling in the treatment area may last up to 5-7 days. Slight bruising may occur which can be hidden with makeup.
  • Patients should eat clean food to protect themselves from infection
  • Cold compresses should be done at least once a day after the surgery to reduce soreness in the first 1-2 days.
  • Patient should always gargle to keep the mouth clean
  • The patient should only eat smooth foods after the operation
  • Avoid using the tongue to touch the incision
  • Follow-up should be conducted 1 week after the operation.
Side Effect
  • Bleeding from the injection areas may occur
  • Swelling and bruising
  • Redness and tenderness may also be noticed in the area of the injection

Other severe side effects may include:

  • Prolonged swelling or bruising that may last up to 1 week to 10 days
  • Lip asymmetry (different parts of the lips have various sizes)
  • Injections made into the blood vessel can result in tissue loss, scarring, ulceration or hardening of the lip.
  • An allergic reaction can cause itching, redness, and swelling.
